Welcome to our monthly newsletter!
Here we will be sharing some of our favorite pieces of Dumpster Ephemera that we’ve collected over the last few years.
When we first started collecting ephemera from the trash, we weren’t sure what to do with it. All we knew was that it didn’t feel right to leave these pieces of life and history behind with the food scraps and bathroom trash – it felt like it meant something more.Â
It certainly meant more to someone at one place in time.
Since we are launching this newsletter in February, it only feels right to include a variety of Valentine’s cards, handwritten notes, and all things love.
Why were these sentiments held on to for so long and what ultimately led to them being thrown away?
We all long to feel loved, and maybe that’s why things like this are held on to for such a long time. They remind us of the friendships we had, the loves we’ve lost, and the way it feels to give ourselves, so freely, to our emotions.
We are able to look into our own lives through the discarded keepsakes of others.
We are reminded of innocent school days, passing out cards to our classmates. We are taken back to the heartache of young love, and experience all over again the teenage fury caused by the betrayal of a friend.
We share in the humanness of it all and that’s what makes it so precious to us.
It’s been years since we first started collecting ephemera from the trash.
We stacked boxes of it in our guest room closet, thinking someday we might dream up a way to showcase it — to give it the glory we believe it deserves.Â
Well, maybe this newsletter is our Someday.Â
We hope you enjoyed Love in the Trash — Lots more to come!

Thank you for rescuing these! I am a sentimental sap and think these types of things need to be saved and preserved! Love that you shared them with us!
Really enjoyed the first newsletter. My heart was touched, and I remember my childhood Valentine's day at school. What beautiful memories!
